ESMA REDZEPOVA THE ROMANI QUEEN FOR MUSIC


Esma Redžepova is a Macedonian Singer, songwriter, and humanitarian. During her life she has performed in more than 9000 concerts in 30 countries. By her own account she has created more than 500 works of art, which include 108 singles, 20 albums, and 6 movies.


THE ROMA LEGEND SABAN BAJRAMOVIC

Šaban Bajramović (Serbian Cyrillic: Шабан Бајрамовић) (April 16, 1936 -- June 8, 2008) was a Romani musician from Serbia. He was born in Niš where he attended primary school for only the first four years. On quitting school, he picked up his musical education on the street.

TONY GATLIF HISTORY

Tony Gatlif was born on September 10, 1948 in Algiers. Like many fellow citizens, he left Algeria in the early 1960s.
During his elementary school years he discovered the cinema. A teacher bought a 16mm projector and showed a movie every week, which served as the basis for a passion in film. “ [I] have seen the films of Vigo, Renoir, from John Ford and Chaplin’s … That is my cinema education.”

MEFAIL AND ROBERT SAKIP

 Mefail SAKIP - MEFO was born on 17/06/1950 - 08/02/2011 in Skopje, Republic of Macedonia.

He is coming from a Roma musician family, where his father from early childhood started to teach him to play in different string instruments as Mandolin and Macedonian instrument called Tambura. He was enrolled in the Secondary Musical School “Ilija Nikolovski Luj “, Skopje in the instrumental department for Violin.During his schooling he was also active in different youth folklore assemblies and associations as “Orce Nikolov “, Koco Racin”, ”Vlado Tasevski”, Kosta Abrasevik” and “Tanec” where the Macedonian traditional ethno music and folklore was cherished.
